André Machent more commonly known as Triple Threat in the industry was born and raised in Sea Point, Cape Town. He has an immense passion for music and working in the industry and therefore decided to pursue a career in music. He started out competing in rap battles in high school.
André started out in the industry as part of a duo known as DirtyFunk, who created hits such as Rock, Paper, Scissors; Droptop; and Rockstar which featured the likes of Jack Parow.
The duo also released a track called Geechy some of the cast from House Party 5 featured on the track. This included Tequan Richmond (who plays Drew in the TV series Everybody Hates Chris), Julian Works (who has been featured in TV series like Modern Family) and Keith Powers (A Wilemina Model and has been featured in various TV series like Pretty Little Liars).
The single featuring Jack Parow and Ebi (Presenter on GoodHope Fm) titled Rockstar became an instant hit which charted number 1 on Kovsie FM in Bloemfontein and peaked at number 7 on 5FM’s hip hop chart. The summer hit called Drop Top which features Reece Faure was also received so well on radio stations and has a music video to it as well.
He has also worked with Jimmy Nevis, Tequan Richmond (who featured in the hit TV series “Everybody Hates Chris”), Sasha Lee Davids (Idols SA winner), RJ Benjamin, Locnville, Grimehouse, Auriol Hays, Sekoati Tsubane AKA Skwati (starred as Kabelo in 7de Laan), Ebi the Inglisman, RJ Benjamin and Gabi Le Roux to name a few.
André has also hosted various international competitions and shows in the dance industry namely Set4Set, Dance to Las Vegas, Dance to San Diego, Ghetto Style Fusion Concept, Unrestricted, Dance Star South Africa and currently the official Mc for World Of Dance South Africa.
He has been featured in magazines and newspapers such as Hype Magazine, You Magazine, Die Kuier, Jitz Magazine, Tropics Magazine, The Son, The Daily Voice, Cape Argus and Yes! Magazine.
In 2012 André was cast to star in the Warner Brothers franchise movie “House Party 5” where he played a rapper/dancer, the movie was released in May 2013.
He has also performed at places such Club Zanzibar (located in Knysna), Cape Town International Convention Centre at Spring Break and Winter Wonderland, Cape Town Stadium, Artscape, Side Show, Chrome, 169, The Living Room, Baghdad Café, Imperial Lounge, So So Deep, HQ, Sans Souci Girls High, The Loop Club, Obs Fest, Mitchells Plain Festival, Dance to Las Vegas Finals, MCQP Candyland and also various Color Run SA Events.
André has had the privilege of being featured on all GoodHope FM shows, and has been interviewed by various other radio stations. He had a residency as DJs on GoodHope FM’s Lunch show with Ayanda Tini. This in turn generated endless bookings at events in and around Cape Town to date.
André first started taking dance seriously after auditioning for the very first season of the South African version of “So You Think You Can Dance”; this unleashed a passion for dance as well as teaching and his career as a choreographer kicked off. With “So You Think You Can Dance” being a turning moment in his dancing career, he now teaches high school students for major competitions such as High School Jam where the school placed second overall.
In 2018, Andre helped Pinelands High School win High School Jam 2019, with the school winning R50 000 for the school..
Andre has also been involved with logistical work and MCing one of Africa’s biggest act Nasty C’s event called the Ivyson Tour, which he has been a part of since 2017. Visiting various schools within South Africa and giving back to kids who don’t have the privilege of seeing such an artist perform live.
Andre also ventured into a passion project called Behind The Bar, which aims to uplift and push local artists within the music industry, by reacting to their bars (punchlines) in the videos and then sitting down for a more personal one-on-one interview. This giving the artist the platform to allow the viewers more insight into who the artist is and what the music is about.
Behind The Bar has also collaborated with various small businesses by giving away prizes for each episode. Brands like:
- FlyTap Liquor gave away R2000 in vouchers.
- Kaleb Conradie Tattoos gave away a free A3 Tattoo.
- Plugged Clothing gave away a customized hoody with printing on.
- Table Traders gave away a Gin hamper.
- Kova Pest Control gave a whiskey hamper as well as a discounted home fumigation.
So the aim of the show is to push artists we have never heard of and create brand awareness for local businesses.
